However, only ETA-3 days (that is, three days before the estimated ship arrival date) are accepted for export heavy containers. The implementation time of this measure is from May 31 to June 6.

Maersk announced on the evening of May 31 that the Yantian Port’s epidemic prevention measures have become stricter, the density of the terminal yard has continued to increase, and the operation in the west area has not been restored. Extend to 7-8 days.

The transfer of a large number of ships and cargo to surrounding ports has also aggravated the congestion of surrounding ports.

Maersk also mentioned that truck services entering Yantian Port to transport containers are also affected by traffic congestion around the terminal, and it is expected that empty trucks will be delayed by at least 8 hours.

Prior to this, due to the outbreak of the epidemic, Yantian Port closed some terminals in the west area and suspended the export of containerized goods. The backlog of goods exceeded 20,000 boxes.According to Lloyd’s List Intelligence ship tracking data, a large number of container ships are now congested near the Yantian port area.Linerlytica analyst Hua Joo Tan said that the port congestion problem will still take one to two weeks to be resolved.

More importantly, freight rates that have soared may “rise again.” The number of TEUs from the starting port of Yantian, China to all U.S. ports (the white dotted line indicates the TEU in the next 7 days.

Note to freight forwarders who have plans to ship from Yantian Port in the near future: pay attention to the dynamics of the terminal in time and cooperate with the relevant arrangements after the gate is opened.
